Head and Shoulder massages; are in my opinion crucial to keep our health and wellbeing in check throughout the year.  I welcome ironing out any niggles and give you a relaxing head massage to address shoulder pain, neck pain, migraines, tension headaces, arm and hand complants.

Herbal powder massage (Udvartana)

Full body massage with herbal poultice (Abyanga and pinda sweda)

A heated poultice (pinda) with specific herbs or heated sand to suit the condition is used together with oil massage

Joint related problems, chronic rheumatism, osteo-arthritis, gout, stiffness, swelling, nervous system conditions, improves blood circulation, helps in high blood pressure, diabetes, skin problems, improves sleep and prevents aging.

If a pre-existing condistion does exist good results are experienced if a course of treatment is booked for 7  up to 14 days.

Full body Ayurvedic powder scrub using herbal powders according to your constitution or condition.

A 60 minute holistic consultation; includes a full medical, social and diet history.  Diagnostic examinations are carried out as required.  Advice includes nutritional, diet, lifestyle, mental health and exercise advice, packaged together if required the relevant  Ayurvedic treatments comprising of massage or specialist therapies. Herbal medicine prescriptions may be given. Follow up consultations are recommended.

Indian Head massage
(Shiro abyanga)

Traditional Indian Head Massage (shiro abyanga), includes massage of target pressure points (marmas) using specific herbal oils according to your dosha and complaint.

Good for stress, nervous system disorders, insomnia, hair fall, greying, dandruff.

Full body Ayurvedic oil massage using herbal oils according to your constitution (dosha).  The treatment is comprises of a deep tissue massage for the muscles, marma (pressure points) massage and the hands and feet.
The treatment is holistic and concentrates on physical ailments together with mental and emotional well-being.

Shirovasti means literally 'head bath'  which it is.  A leather cap is put around the head and tied so that it looks something like a top hat.  There is no lid and herbal oil is poured onto the top of the head and is kept there for up to an hour. 

It is used in Ayurveda for conditions related to the nervous system e.g MS and Parkinsons. It is good for the eyes and sinus problems too. Helps with sleep and another alernative to Shirodhara.

Shirovasti

Warm herbal oil or decoction is poured onto the forehead in a steady flow from side to side.

It lasts up to one hour dependent on your presenting symptoms.  It is extremely soothing and recommended for mental stresses and strains, sleepless nights, migraines, nervous system disorders and other conditions that are linked to mind.  Courses of Shirordhara are recommended.  I don't usually give one off treatments for relaxation purposes but am happy to discuss this with you.

Shirodhara

Foot massage (Pada abyanga)

Ayurvedic pressure point massage using herbal oil, to the feet and lower legs  Similar to reflexology, Ayurveda believes that the foot mirrors the body.   

Useful in insomnia, detoxification, relaxation.

The neck or knees are bathed with warm herbal oils bathed for 45 minutes. The oil nourishes the target area, relieves pain and inflammation.

Griva Basti good for disc problems, pain, inflammation.

Janu Basti good for ligament and tendon damage, arthritis, gout, cracking.

A course of treatment is often advised and will be most effective.  A 20% discount is applied for a course of 7 treatments.

Neck or Knee bath (Janu or Griva basti)

Nasal oil treatment (Nasya)

The nose is used as a gateway to the head.  This treatment is a panchakarma treatment.  It is used in head, neck and shoulder complaints.  The treatment includes facial massage, steam followed by  warm oil being dispensed through the nasal passages. The client will spit out any remaining oil. 

It is useful in headache, migraine, common colds, conditions of the throat, rhinitis, eye complaints, gland enlargement,  frozen shoulder, paralysis of the arm.

Specialist Ayurvedic oil specific to the condition are poured into a bath for 60 minutes.  Multiple areas of the spine may be treated simultaneously according to your condition.

Great for pain relief and inflammation, Reverses sciatica and disc degeneration.

This treatment is recommended if there is a pre-existing condition.  A course of treatment will be advised according to the severity and the pain of the individual.

Preparation for your treatment

PREPARATION FOR ALL TREATMENTS

  • Try to arrive 10 minutes before treatment, to fill in a consent form.
  • Please try to ensure that you have an empty bowel and bladder before each treatment.
  • Do not eat at least three hours before treatment; if possible.
  • Shower facilities are available post massage if preferred, towels are provided.
  • A larger quantity of oil used in Ayurveda than in other massage specialities.  Disposable knickers (g-string) are available for the massage, however you are welcome to use your own underwear if you so wish.
  • Please dress any open wounds before coming, to prevent any infection.
  • The chest and buttocks area are normally included in the massage, there are important lymph glands and pressure points present in these areas.  You will be asked to consent to this on a treatment registration form.
  • For women only, we are unable to massage for the first three days of the menstrual cycle.
  • Pregnancy massage; it is not advised to have a massage in the first trimester.

AFTER MASSAGE ADVICE:

  • Just relax!
  • Do not do any strenuous excercise for at least 24 hours; it can cause injury as the muscles are suseptible to injury after a massage.
  • Drink warm water for the rest of the day if possible; it flushes the system of toxins.
  • Eat light food, preferrably vegetable/ chicken stock soup in the evening and ensure food is eaten at four hours before bedtime.  Try not to eat uncooked food after the massage, e.g. salad, salty snacks or sugary sweets.
  • Take a warm bath, it not only relaxes your further, but if you soak until you feel perspiration, it promotes further absorbtion of the herbal oils into the tissues and expels toxins.


Terms and Conditions

Pregnancy Massage is beneficial to mind and body during pregnancy.  It is important for the pregnant mother to be free from anxiety during pregnancy. 

Good for aches and pains, circulation, swelling, sciatica, stress.
NB:  massage cannot be undertaken during the first trimester

Peri-menopause and menopause

Peri-menopause and menopause can be a very confusing time for women often not knowing that what it is with symptoms of brain fog, mood swings, changes in periods, achy joints, it is not a straight forward transition. 

A great way to balance your system is through Ayurveda, it will take at last 6 months to really see and feel significant change in your well-being.   Therefore a course of treatment is advised.
